Big season on tap for the SHRED
Racing Team
GUZIK HAS FAST CAR AT LAKE ERIE BEFORE LOSING BRAKES
NORTH
EAST, Pa. - When Bret Guzik executed a perfectly-timed outside pass on
the last lap of his heat race to finish third, he proved he had a car
capable of running in the top 10 in the Lake Erie 150 presented by
Dodge late model feature Saturday at Lake Erie Speedway.
Guzik, 16, started eighth in the feature but lost his brakes around the Lap 30 mark, and was forced to drive cautiously through the remainder of the 150-lap event. He finished 26th. “I could tell something was wrong right from the beginning of the race,” says Guzik. “The car would just ‘skate’ going into the corners and I had all I could do to get it slowed down. Around Lap 30, the brakes went completely out. I tried pumping them under caution but there wasn’t anything so I just did the best I could to stay out of the leader's way and get to the finish. It’s too bad; we had a top-10 car.”
Guzik, a rookie at Lake Erie, entered the night 13th in the late model point standings.
Away
from the pavement, Guzik has a verbal agreement to race a 600cc
micro-sprint owned by Shred Racing at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on
Aug. 30 and 31 during the annual Labor Day Open for micro-sprints.
Guzik will also compete in the car Aug. 23 in preparation for the Labor
Day event. “We’re excited to be going back to LANCO. Lake Erie is
off both weekends so the micro-sprint racing won’t conflict with our
late model schedule. I have to thank Mike Freed and Curt Goshert of
Shred Racing for the opportunity. It should be a fun couple of weeks,”
Guzik said. In 2007 the Labor Day Open featured approximately 80
cars in attendance. Guzik finished seventh overall and was the highest
finishing Yamaha. Shred Racing's No. 12 is an updated 2001 Hyper
chassis with a 2004 Kawasaki 636 Guhl Motors fuel injection.
Bret Guzik, 16, is a former quarter-midget champion and 600cc dirt micro-sprint race winner. A native of Pottstown, Pa., Guzik moved up to late models in 2008 and competes weekly at the competitive Lake Erie Speedway in North East, Pa. Amid working through the rookie learning curve, Guzik has shown top-five speed in Lake Erie’s earlier races while continuing to build experience as the season progresses. Guzik is a member of the Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver Development Program and is represented by Driver Development Services, Inc., Charlotte, N.C. His marketing partners include Cat Iron, Knockouts Haircuts for Men, Chuck’s Auto Salvage, Hilltop Enterprises, Body-Borneman Insurance, Power Trip Energy Drinks, and Team Full Throttle.

October 20,2007 - Linda's (National Open Day #2)
78 600's were pitside under sunny skies for the 18th annual National Open. With rain washing out Friday's action, Linda's Speedway made the decision to run the entire show on Saturday. The SHRED Racing machine was working well during time trials and when the dust settled, Mike stood 14th fastest with a time of 11.975 sec. Mike dropped into 3rd from his outside front row starting spot in the heat race and remained in that position throughout the event. The 3rd place heat finish gave Mike the pole for the 6th and final consi with only the winner advancing to the A main. Mike put the #24 out front at the drop of the green and was able to pull away from the field on several restarts to take the consi victory. Mike started the SHRED Racing machine 22nd in the A main and was up to 17th several laps into the event when contact with another car broke the hiem end on the panhard bar ending the team's night with a 24th place finish.
October 19,2007 - Linda's (National Open Day #1)
A heavy rain storm hit the speedway as warm ups were about to start, causing Friday night's action to be postponed until Saturday.
October 13,2007 - Greenwood Valley
43 600's showed up on Saturday night to compete in the 7th Annual Blaise Alexander Memorial race. Another bad pill draw had the SHRED Racing machine starting last in the heat race. Mike immediately began advancing from his 9th starting spot and was able to take the 4th and final transfer spot with 2 laps remaining. During the feature, Mike worked his way from his 18th starting spot up to 12th when his was taken out by the 13th place car in turn 4 on the final lap.
October 12,2007 - Linda's
A strong field of 47 600's signed in on Friday night for one last chance to tune up for next weekend's National Open. Mike lined up 3rd in the heat race with only 3 advancing directly to the feature. After running in the 4th spot during the first half of the race, Mike regained 3rd when the leader spun in turns 3 and 4. The 3rd place heat finish gave Mike the 17th starting spot for the feature. He had worked his way up to 12th when contact with another car sent him spinning in turns 1 and 2. After restarting at the rear, he was only able to pick up a couple of spots and settled for a 20th place finish.
October 5,2007 - Path Valley
A strong field of 33 600's decided to go "topless" for Path Valley's special wingless race. Another disappointing pill draw had Mike starting the heat race in the 5th position. Mike wasted little time putting the SHRED Racing machine out front and remained there as the checkered flag flew. Mike lined up on the pole for the feature as a result of a 4 invert. The team didn't quite tighten the car up enough and Mike lost several spots early in the race settling into the 4th position. Mike picked up the 3rd spot when the leader dropped out with a problem around the halfway point and remained in that position through the end of the race.
September 29,2007 - Greenwood Valley
The SHRED Racing Team decided to make the tow to Greenwood Valley for the first time in 2 years on a night that would have 20 600's in the pits. The heat race would see Mike grid the #24 in the 7th spot. Mike was able to pick up a couple of positions to take the checkered flag in 5th. The 5th place heat finish gave Mike the 13th starting spot in the feature. Mike gradually moved up throughout the race to finish in the 8th spot.
September 22,2007 - Path Valley
48 600's lined the pit area for the 7th Annual All Sprint Nationals at Path Valley. A decent pill draw would have Mike starting the SHRED Racing #24 4th in the heat race. Mike was able to hang on to this spot throughout the race and take the final transfer spot for the feature. As a result of the 4th place heat finish, Mike would start the feature event in the 17th position. The SHRED Racing machine dropped back to 21st during the opening laps of the race, the result of a tight condition. The car got better as the race progressed and Mike was able to pass several cars to take the checkered flag 13th.
September 15,2007 - LANCO
28 600's signed in for LANCO's season finale. Of those, 22 signed up to compete in the first ever Wingless Challenge at the end of the night. The heat race would see Mike move into 2nd from his 3rd starting spot at the drop of the green and would hold that position at the checkered flag. After starting 4th in the feature, Mike would run as high as 2nd before the tire starting going away. The SHRED Racing #24 lost several position during the last part of the race and Mike settled for a 4th place finish. At the end of the night, the team took the wings off to compete in LANCO's first ever Wingless Challenge. After starting 14th by virtue of a pill draw, Mike would steadily work his way towards the front and take the checkered flag in the 5th spot.25 600's were pitside for LANCO's next to last race of the season. The SHRED Racing team's night started with a bang as Mike flipped in warm ups. The team made repairs in time for the heat race which had Mike starting in the 3rd position. Contact with another car on the first lap sent Mike head on into the backstretch gaurdrail and to the back of the pack for the restart. Despite racing with a broken nose wing and a bent front axle, Mike was able to salvage a 4th place finish. Repairs were made once again in time for Mike to line up 2nd for the feature event. Mike put the SHRED Racing machine out front at the drop of the green and led the first 14 laps before contact with the second place car caused the chain to jump the sprocket, ending the team's night.
September 1 and 2, 2007 - LANCO Labor Day Shootout
A total of 204 cars including 56 600's crammed the pit area for LANCO's annual Labor Day Shootout. A bad time trial lap relegated Mike to a 10th place start in the heat. There was limited passing on the slick daytime surface resulting in an 8th place heat finish and a spot in the first consi. The car was working better in the consi and Mike was able to grab a 3rd place finish to advance to the B main. Mike was able to grab a 15th place finish from his 23rd starting spot. However, only the top 8 advanced to the A feature. Mike was pulling double duty this weekend as he was also piloting the Wise Racing #73 in the 125cc division. Mike stint in this car also began with a less than favorable time trial lap that would have Mike starting at the back of the heat race. An 8th place heat finish gave Mike the 6th starting spot in the consi. He was able to advance several positions and take the checkered flag in 4th. At the drop of the green for the feature event, Mike began steadily working his way to the front from his 21st starting spot. With 3 laps remaining Mike was running in 6th and closing on the 5th place car when the #73 burned a piston.
August 25, 2007 - LANCO
28 600's signed in to compete at LANCO for the last event before the big Labor Day Shootout. Mike took the heat race lead quickly from his 3rd starting spot and held on to win his 4th heat of the year at LANCO. A heavy thunderstorm hit the speedway just as the night's qualifying action was concluding. After a 2 hour rain delay and a tremendous effort by the track crew as well as the drivers who brought their cars out to help run in the track, the evening's action was ready to resume. Mike started the feature in the 3rd position and found out early that the highside was a little too slick. Despite brushing the wall several times early in the event, Mike was able to take the checkered flag in the 9th spot.
August 24,2007 - Linda's
32 600's were in attendance at linda's on Friday night. The SHRED Racing Team's main goal was to make sure that the recent fuel pump/electrical problems were fixed. Mike started 5th in the heat, but the team missed the set up and he finished 7th. The 7th place heat finish gave Mike the pole for the consi. He took the lead at the drop of the green, but slid high in turn 3 and 4 with 2 laps remaining which enabled the 2nd place runner to take the lead. The feature event saw the SHRED Racing #24 in the 20th starting spot. The event went non stop and Mike ended up with a 22nd place finish. More importantly, it appears that the team's nagging problems have been fixed.
August 18,2007 - LANCO
25 600's were in the pits on a beautiful night at LANCO. Mike started 3rd in the heat race and was battling for the lead when he made contact with the other car sending him into the backstretch guard rail. Mike was sent pitside as a result of the incident. Mike came back strong in the consi moving from his 8th place starting position to an eventual runnerup finish. In the feature, Mike had moved the SHRED Racing machine from the 19th starting spot up to 12th before dropping out with a fuel pressure problem.
August 15,2007 - Kutztown
34 600's packed the pits for Kutztown's final race of 2007. Another high pill draw had Mike starting 10th in the heat race. After getting crossed up at the start Mike was only able to manage an 8th place finish. Mike lined the SHRED Racing machine up 5th in the consi and despite a car that wasn't quite running right managed a 4th place finish. Mike pulled off the track several laps into the feature with an apparent motor problem.
August 11,2007 - LANCO
24 600's signed in to compete at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike started 3rd in the heat race and was making a bid for 1st when the lead car slid up the track and planted him in the wall. Mike lost his brakes as a result of the contact, but continued on to a 4th place finish. The team repaired the SHRED Racing machine for the feature event that had Mike starting in the 4th spot. Mike spun on the first lap and was hit by another car, ending the team's night with a 21st place finish.
August 8,2007 - Kutztown
22 600's were in the pits for the second to last race of the year at Kutztown. A bad pill draw had Mike starting the SHRED Racing Predator 10th in the heat race. A couple of laps in Mike was up to 6th and making a bid for 5th when he was pinched by another car, causing him to spin. Mike was hit by another car as he sat sideways on the track causing front end damage to the #24. The team made repairs in time for the feature which would have Mike starting in the 21st position as a result of the DNF in the heat race. Mike was able to pick off several cars during the feature enroute to a 16th place finish. After the regular feature, the team decided to take the wings off and compete in the 600 vs 270 wingless challenge. A good pill draw put Mike on the pole and he took the lead at the drop of the green. Despite several cautions, Mike was never seriously challenged and he was able to lead all 15 laps to grab the SHRED Racing Team's 2nd win of the year. The win marked not only Mike's first in a wingless event, but also his first at Kutztown.
July 28,2007 - LANCO
25 600's were in the pits to take part in the annual Clyde Martin Memorial race. Mike started the SHRED Racing machine 6th in the heat race and had worked his way up to 3rd when the car suddenly lost power on a restart due to an apparent electrical problem. The crew worked on the car and the problem seemed to be solved with a 3rd place consi finish. Several laps into the feature the #24 once again lost power, ending the team's night with a 21st place finish.
July 25,2007 - Kutztown
26 600's were in the pits at Kutztown on Wednesday night. A decent pill draw gave Mike the pole for the heat race which he won by leading every lap. The first of the twin 15 lap features would have Mike starting in the 10th position. Several laps into the race while running 9th the SHRED Racing machine was turned by another car causing Mike to restart at the rear. Mike was able to come back to 16th as the checkered flag flew. The second feature had Mike starting where he finished the first one. After falling back to 19th early, Mike was able get around several cars on the hard to pass track and finish again in the 16th spot.
July 21,2007 - LANCO
A rather small field of 26 600's showed up to race at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike used the high line to perfection at the start of the heat race, blasting from jis 6th starting spot to the lead coming out of turn 2. Mike led the rest of the way taking the checkered flag by nearly a half lap over 2nd place. Mike started the feature event in the 7th position. The team missed the set up slightly and that coupled with a brush with the turn 2 wall resulted in a 15th place finish.
July 14,2007 - LANCO
A decent field of 32 600's signed in to compete at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike started the heat race in the 4th spot and quickly worked his way into 2nd. Even though he appeared to be faster than the leader, Mike was unable to make the pass and settled for a runnerup finish. Mike lined up 5th for the feature and quickly moved into 2nd. After taking the lead on a restart around lap 5, Mike survived several late race restarts and a stiff challenge from the 2nd place machine of Heath Hehnly to score the SHRED Racing Team's first victory of 2007.
July 13,2007 - Linda's
31 600's were in the pits for Friday night's action at Linda's Speedway. The team finally got a good pill draw that put Mike on the pole of his heat race. The SHRED Racing Predator was working good and Mike drove away to an easy victory. Mike started the #24 9th in the feature event and was able to pick up one spot to take the checkered flag in the 8th position.
July 7,2007 - LANCO (Super 600 Showdown)
114 of the best 600cc micro sprints in the United States converged on the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway Saturday July 7th for the 3rd annual Super 600 Showdown presented by www.microracing.com. Mike started the SHRED Racing #24 4th in his heat race and was able to pick up one spot and finish 3rd at the checkers. As a result of the passing point system used in the Showdown, Mike's 3rd place heat finish was only good enough for a 12th place start in the 2nd "B" main. After being caught up in 2 incidents during the event Mike soldiered on to a 14th place finish.
July 3,2007 - Susky
61 cars rolled into Susquehanna Speedway Park for night #3 of speedweek. Mike was excited about the race as the car was fast and handled well during warm ups. However, the SHRED Racing machine was taken out during the initial start of the heat race ending the team's night with a torn up race car. At this point the SHRED Racing Team will not be at Linda's on Friday July 6th for the 4th leg of the speedweek.
July 2,2007 - Path Valley
67 cars signed in for night #2 of the PA speedweek. The team had a hard time getting a handle on the slick Path Valley surface and after making numerous changes to the car throughout the night Mike was only able to manage a 10th place heat finish, 13th place consi finish and a 10th place finish in the last chance race.
July 1,2007 - Hill Valley (Rumble in the Hills)
64 of the best 600's in the country were pitside at Hill Valley to kick off the first annual Pennsylvania 600 cc micro sprint speedweek. With the passing point system in place, Mike earned enough points with his 3rd place heat finish and 2nd place qualifying race finish to earn the 13th starting spot for the feature event. The racing surface proved hard to pass on and after falling back to 18th place, Mike was able to gain several positions back and settled for a 12th place finish.
31 600's were in the pits at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike started the SHRED Racing machine 5th in the heat race and was up to 3rd when the fuel pump went out on a restart and relegating Mike to the back of the consi. The car was strong and Mike wasted little time moving from his 10th starting spot to take the lead and eventually the consi win. The win in the consi gave Mike the 19th starting postion in the feature. Mike worked the #24 up to 12th before contact with a spinning car flattened the right front tire and ended the team's night.
June 23,2007 - LANCO
A strong field of 36 600's signed in to compete at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike started the #24 4th in the heat race and quickly worked his way into 2nd. Mike lost 2 spots on a restart midway through the event and would hang on to take 4th at the checker. June 22,2007 - Linda's
32 600's were pitside at Linda's on Friday night. Mike lined the SHRED Racing machine up in the 7th starting spot for the heat race. The team tried a different set up for the heat which did not work, relegating Mike to a last place finish. The consi would see Mike line up in the 8th and final position on the grid. With the car handling much better Mike took the checkered flag in 4th place, right on the tail of the 3rd place finisher. Only a few laps in to the feature event Mike again got caught up in someone else's mess ending the team's night with a torn up race car.June 16,2007 LANCO
30 600's were in the pits at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike started 6th in the heat race and immediately began working his way to the front, enentually taking the top spot just past the halfway point. The feature would see the SHRED Racing machine starting in the 7th spot. However, the bad luck bug struck again with the chain breaking on the 1st lap and ending the team's night with a 24th place finish.
June 9,2007 - LANCO
A good field of 35 600's, including several invaders tuning up for the Showdown, filled the pits at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike started the #24 5th in the heat race and quickly worked his way into 2nd. Mike settled for 3rd at the checkered flag as a car passed him in the closing laps. Mike started the feature in the 4th spot and spent much of the first part of the race running in the 3rd position. June 8,2007 - Linda's
34 600's singed in to compete at Linda's on Friday night. Mike started the SHRED Racing machine 3rd in the heat race, but the car was extremely loose and Mike lost several spots before settling for 6th at the finish. Mike was scheduled to start 3rd in the consi, but while the cars were on the grid the skies opened up forcing Linda's to postpone the remainder of the event. The consi's anf the feature will be made up at a future show.
May 30,2007 - Kutztown
26 600's were in the pits at Kutztown Wednesday night. Mike started 10th in the heat race and with an ill handling race car was only able to manage a 9th place finish. The consi saw Mike line the SHRED Racing machine up in the 7th spot. Mike passed several cars at the start of the event and had the inside line on the 4th place car when the other car cut to the inside making contact with the #24. Even though Mike never stopped, he was sent to the rear for the restart. Despite suffering a bent axle in the altercation, Mike was able to salvage a 4th place finish. The feature event had Mike lining up on the outside of row 11 in the 22nd starting position. Despite racing with a bent axle, Mike had worked his way up to 13th when he dropped out of the race with a broken header pipe as a result of contact with another car.
May 26,2007 - LANCO
33 600's singed in to compete in LANCO's Memorial Day Open event. 270 hotshoe Scott Gingrich was called upon to warm up the SHRED Racing machine as Mike was busy with track prep and other duties. Once again as has become the norm at LANCO this season, a heavy rain storm soaked the speedway after warm ups. However, for the second week in a row the racers and fans would not be denied as the track crew put forth a Herculean effort to prepare an awesome racing surface. Mike climbed off the tractor and into the race car for a 6th place start in the heat. The car was handling well and Mike was able to pass a few cars and bring the #24 home 4th. The feature would see Mike start the SHRED Racing machine 12th as a result of a head's up start. Despite fighting a tight condition, Mike was able to bring the car home with an 8th place finish.
May 25,2007 - Linda's Speedway
32 600's were pitside for Friday night action at Linda's Speedway. Mike started the SHRED Racing Predator 6th in the heat race and was able to pass several cars enroute to a 4th place finish. Mike was hit by another car as he sat facing traffic causing major front end damage and ending the team's night with a 23rd place finish.
May 19,2007 - LANCO
34 600's lined the pits on a night that would once again see the rains hit the speedway after warm ups. After starting the feature in the 10th position, Mike spun the #24 while trying to avoid another spinning car. After restarting at the rear of the field, Mike was able pass several cars and bring the SHRED Racing machine home with a 13th place finish.
May 15,2007

May 11,2007 - Linda's Speedway
May 5,2007 - LANCO
35 600's were in the pits for LANCO's second race of the season. Mike quickly moved the SHRED Racing Predator to the front from his 3rd place starting spot in the heat. The heat race victory gave Mike the 5th starting position for the feature event. Mike dropped back to 7th on the initial start and ran in that position until contact with a spinning car dropped him back to 13th. With the aid of several caution flags in the closing laps, Mike was able to take the checkered flag in the 9th spot.
April 28,2007 - LANCO
After a valiant effort by the track prep crew, the races at LANCO were cancelled due to the weather.

April 14,2007 - LANCO

The third place finish in the heat would give Mike the ninth sarting spot for the feature event. With the car not quite handling right, Mike lost several positions in the early stages of the race eventually settling into the 12th spot. Coming off of turn 2 during the final lap, Mike made contact with another car sending him hard into the outside guardrail and causing severe damage to the #24.
March 30,2007 - Linda's Speedway
An outsatanding field of 48 600's filled the pit area for the season opener at Linda's Speedway. A good pill draw had Mike starting on the pole of the heat race. The brand new Predator was working well and Mike was able to lead every lap of the heat and nailed down an inside row two starting spot for the feature. The car was a little loose for the feature and Mike dropped from his third starting spot to ninth during the beginning part of the race. Mike had worked his way back up to the fifth spot late in the race when the motor in the SHRED Racing machine let go relegating the team to a 17th place finish.

Saturday December 2,2006
The
new frame was picked up this morning and is now sitting in the shop.
Next week things will get busy again as the SHRED Racing team begins
getting everything ready for the 2007 racing season.
Tuesday November 14,2006
All's
quiet in the shop right now as the '04 Hyper has been sold and the team
awaits the arrival of a brand new 2007 Predator which should arrive
sometime around Thanksgiving.
Susky (Candy Bowl II) - October 29,2006
The
SHRED racing team and 27 other competitors decided to brave the cold
and windy conditions for the final race of the year. Another terrible
pill draw saw Mike start the 24 machine 9th in the first heat. Although
the car was experiencing fuel pump problems, Mike was able to finish in
the 5th position. The team switched fuel pumps and Mike lined the car
up 13th for the feature. More of the same problems plagued the SHRED
Racing Machine throughout the first half of the feature dropping Mike
as low as the 20th spot. The problem cleared up for the second half of
the race and Mike began to work his way towards the front, eventually
settling for a 9th place finish.
**The SHRED Racing Team would like to
congratulate Martin Racing and driver Andy Martin for winning their
first ARDC Midget championship. Way to go Andy!!!**
Linda's National Open - October 20 and 21, 2006
100 600's packed the pit area for Linda's 17th annual National Open.
The weekend started out on a high note as Mike was able to time trial
the SHRED Racing machine 8th fastest. Turning the 8th quickest time
gave Mike the pole for the 8th heat event. Mike dominated the heat race
from the drop of the green and took the checkered flag nearly half a
lap ahead of 2nd place. Shortly into the feature event Mike was running
in the 7th position when the car developed an electrical problem that
ended the team's night with a 26th place finish.
Airport - October 14,2006
At
the last minute the SHRED Racing Team decided to have a little fun and
head down to Airport Speedway in Delaware for their wingless event. 14
600's decided to take off the wings and do a little "traditional" open
wheel racing. Mike started 6th in the heat and managed a 5th place
finish with an ill handling race car. The 5th place heat finish gave
Mike the 10th starting spot in the feature. With the car handling much
better Mike ran as high as 3rd place before getting a little out of
shape and losing several positions. Mike settled into 6th place when he
was collected by a spinning car shortly after the midpoint of the
event. The resulting damage was too much to continue, ending the team's
night with an 11th place finish.
Linda's - October 13,2006
41
600's were in the pits at Linda's to tune up for next week's National
Open. Mike started the SHRED Racing machine in the 5th spot for the
heat. Several laps into the event, contact with another car sent Mike
hard into the outside wall ending Mike's heat race with an 11th place
finish. The poor finish in the heat put Mike in the 13th starting spot
for the consi. Mike immediately began working his way to the front
eventually settling for a 5th place finish, one spot shy of a transfer
to the feature.
**
The SHRED Racing Team would like to congratulate Bryan Wise and the
Wise Racing Team for picking up their first career feature win in the
125cc event.**
Trailway - October 7,2006
60
600's were pitside at Trailway for the 17th annual Kevin Gobrecht
Memorial. Mike lined the SHRED Racing #24 up in the 5th starting spot
for the heat. On the third attempt to start the race, Mike found
himself caught up in a wreck that sent him nose first into outside
wall. The damage to the front end of the frame was severe enough that
Mike's night was over.
Trailway - Septrember 30,2006
The
17th annual Kevin Gobrecht Memorial National Open was postponed due to
weather on both Saturday September 30 and Sunday October 1. The event
has been rescheduled for Saturday October 7.
Linda's - September 29,2006
33
600's signed in to compete at Linda's on Friday night. A decent pill
draw gave Mike the 3rd starting spot in the heat race. He quickly moved
the SHRED Racing machine into 2nd, and even though he challenged
for the lead the remainder of the race he eventually settled for the
runnerup position. The 2nd place finish in the heat gave Mike the pole
for the feature. After leading the first couple of laps he yielded the
top spot to the Northeast's winningest driver Mike Rutherford and
settled in to 2nd. Mike tried but could not close the gap on the leader
throughout the balance of the race and settled for a solid 2nd place
finish.
Path Valley - September 23,2006
51
600's were pitside at Path valley for the All Sprint Nationals. A so-so
pill draw left Mike with the 6th starting spot in his heat. mike was
unable to advance his position and took the checkered flag in 6th. Mike
started the SHRED Racing #24 5th in the second consi. Mike was able to
pick up one spot and finish in 4th, but with only the top two going to
the feature missed the transfer by two positions.
LANCO - September 16,2006
31
600's signed in to compete in LANCO's final race of the season. Mike
started the SHRED Racing #24 6th in the heat and was able to pick up
several positions to take the checkered flag in the 4th spot. The 4th
place heat finish earned Mike an 11th place start for the feature. At
the start of the feature several cars got together in front of Mike and
forced him into the infield. After restarting at the rear Mike was able
to pick his way back to an eventual 14th place finish. Mike and the
SHRED Racing Team finished 9th in the final point standings
despite a myriad of problems throughout the season.
Linda's - September 15,2006
The racing action set for friday night at Linda's Speedway has been cancelled due to rain.
LANCO - September 9,2006
30
600's signed in to compete at LANCO on Saturday night. Mike started the
SHRED Racing machine 6th in the heat. After quickly advancing to third,
Mike began to work on the top 2 making the pass for the lead on the
final lap. After starting the feature in the 8th position Mike spun in
the early stages of the race, forcing him to the rear of the field. he
had worked his way back to 17th when he was caught up in another wreck
ending the team's night with a 21st place finish.
An incredible 239 cars, including 68 of the powerful 600's, had the LANCO pits bursting at the seams for the Labor Day Shootout. Saturday was a total washout, forcing the club to utilize the Monday rain date. The SHRED Racing team's weekend started on a down note on Sunday as Mike ran up over the wheel of a slow car in warm ups sending the #24 machine into a violent flip. With the help of several good people, the team was able to make repairs in time for time trials. A disappointing time trial due to an ill handling car left Mike with an 11th place start in the heat race. Although Mike was able to finish 8th in the heat, it was only good enough for an 11th place start in the "C" main. With the car handling much better, Mike was able to finish 6th in the "C" and advance to Monday's "B" main. At the beginning of the "B" the SHRED Racing machine got run over by an impatient competitor ending the team's weekend with a disappointing 24th place finish.
34 "super" 600's signed in to compete at the Clyde on Saturday night. Everything was back to normal on Saturday night with Mike back in the saddle of the SHRED Racing #24. He had a solid run in the heat race, grabbing the 5th spot to qualify for the feature. However, the bad luck bug bit again at the start of the feature as Mike was caught up in a first lap incident. The SHRED Racing machine suffered front end damage, ending the team's night with a 21st place finish.
31
600's were pitside at Linda's on friday night. The night started off
with point leader Mike Rutherford suffering radiator problems in the
Guhl #33 before warm ups. After a team discussion, Mike made the
tough decision to remove himself from the seat of the SHRED Racing
machine and hand the wheel over to Rutherford for the night. Rutherford
was able to qualify the car with a 4th place finish in the heat, but
exited the feature early with a flat right rear tire.
LANCO - August 19,2006
A strong field of 34 600's singed in to compete at LANCO on Saturday night. Once again the bad luck bug bit the SHRED Racing team as Mike was caught up in a wreck on the last lap of the heat while racing for the final transfer spot. The team quickly made repairs to get Mike ready for the consi. Mike was able to start the consi, but Mike parked the ill handling machine after several laps ending the team's night.
31 600's were pitside at Linda's on Friday evening. After starting the #24 machine 7th in the heat, Mike was able to pick off several spots to take the checker in the 5th position. The 5th place finish in the heat would give him the 15th spot for the feature. Mike was caught up in a 7 car pile up on lap 2, but was able to continue minus the nose wing. With an ill handling race car and a sticking throttle Mike parked the car several laps from the end, ending his night with a 20th place finish.
Another fine field of 38 600's signed in to compete at LANCO on Saturday night. However, the SHRED Racing Team would be forced to be spectators for the evening as a broken chain during warm ups stripped the gears in the transmission ending Mike's night before it got started.
35 600's singed in to compete at Linda's on Friday night. The evening started with the make up feature from July 7. Mike started the SHRED Racing machine 17th and wasted little time breaking into the top 10. Mike would enentually settle for 8th place in the race which went non stop green to checker. The regular program would see Mike start the heat race in the 5th position. He was able to advance to 3rd as the checkered flag flew. The feature event would have Mike starting the #24 in the 8th spot. The car wasn't handling quite right and Mike settled for an 11th place finish at the end.
34
600's singed in to compete in LANCO's annual Clyde Martin Memorial
race. Mike started the heat race in the 5th position and although the
track was rough, he was able to advance to the third spot when
the checkers flew. The 3rd place finish in the heat would give Mike the
7th starting spot for the feature. At the drop of the green, Mike began
moving toward the front. Mike had moved the SHRED Racing machine into
2nd place when the red flag flew on lap 15 to tend to injured driver
Doug Coonan. (The SHRED racing team would like to wish Doug a speedy
recovery)Under the red, the crew refueled the car and fixed the nose
wing which had come loose during the first part of the race. When the
racing resumed, Mike dropped back a spot as the car wasn't handling
quite the way it did before the red. Mike was able to hang on from
there and bring the SHRED racing #24 home with a solid 3rd place
finish.
LANCO - July 22,2006
Another
strong field of 37 600's were pitside at LANCO Saturday night. Mike
started the heat race in the 4th spot but was turned from behind on the
initial start. After restarting at the rear, Mike was able to move
through the field and claim the 4th and final transfer spot at the
finish. The feature event would show Mike starting the SHRED Racing
machine in the 15th position. At the drop of the green, Mike began an
impressive march to the front that would result in a 3rd place finish.
However, a questionable rough riding call by the officials credited the
team with an 11th place finish.
Linda's - July 21,2006
26
600's singed in to compete at Linda's on Friday night. Mike started the
SHRED Racing machine 8th in the heat race and was able to pick off
several spots to finish in the 5th position. The 5th place finish in
the heat race would give Mike the 14th starting spot in the feature.
Mike was able to move past several cars throughout the race eventually
settling for a 10th place finish.
Kutztown - July 19,2006
20
600's signed in to compete in Wednesday night's racing action. After
starting the SHRED Racing #24 10th in the heat race, Mike was able to
bring the car home in 8th at the checker. The 8th place finish in the
heat gave Mike the 16th starting spot in the feature. The small
bullring at Kutztown proved difficult to pass on as Mike took the
checkered flag in the 15th position.
LANCO - July 15,2006
40
600's packed the pits at LANCO on a night when the weather was less
than perfect. Mike started the heat in the 6th position, but an ill
handling race car relegated him to a 9th place finish. The consi would
see Mike line the SHRED Racing machine up in the 7th starting spot.
Even though the car was still not quite right Mike managed a 5th place
finish, one spot shy of a feature transfer.
LANCO - July 8,2006
Another
strong field of 34 600's signed in to compete at "the Clyde" on
Saturday night. Mike sarted 3rd in the heat and wasted little time
getting to the front to pick up the win. The feature event had the
SHRED Racing machine lined up on the outside of row 3 in the 6th
position. Mike spent the early laps of the race in the 4th
position. He moved the 24 car into the 3rd spot on lap 9 and
gained the runnerup position at the halfway point when the 2nd place
car lost a chain. Mike made several bids for the lead in the closing
laps of the race, but had to settle for 2nd as the checkered flag
flew.
Linda's - July 7,2006
32
600's were pitside for the night's racing activities. Another high pill
draw had Mike starting the SHRED racing machine 6th in the heat
race. He was able to pick up one spot to finish in the 5th
position and give him an outside front row start in the first consi.
Mike ran side by side with the pole sitter for the first lap and a half
before putting the #24 out front. He was able to lead the rest of the
distance and take the checkered flag almost a full straightaway ahead
of 2nd place. Mike was scheduled to start the feature in the 17th
position, but a hard wreck by Drew Heistand on the initial start ended
the evening's racing as Drew had to be transported to the hospital for
evaluation.(The good news is that Drew only suffered minor injuries and
is going to be fine.) The feature event will be made up at a later
date.
Susky - July 3,2006
45
600's signed in to compete in the "Super Show" at Susquehanna on Monday
July 3. Mike started 11th in the heat race. An ill handling car
and a tangle with the wall coming out of turn 4 left the SHRED
racing team with a 12th place finish. The consi had Mike starting
in the 14th position with only 4 to transfer to the feature. With the
car handling much better, Mike immediately began passing cars and was
able to grab the 5th spot on the last lap, one spot shy of a feature
transfer.
Super 600 Showdown, Hill Valley - July 1,2006
102
of the best 600 racers in the country rolled into Hill Valley
Speedway for the 2nd annual Super 600 Showdown. A low pill draw gave
Mike the pole for the 7th heat. Mike was able to grab the lead at the
drop of the green and easily lead all 8 laps to record the heat race
victory. However, due to the passing point qualifying system that
is used in the Showdown, the win in the heat race was only enough
to give Mike a 3rd place starting spot in the evening's 2nd "B" main.
With the SHRED machine not quite handling right Mike dropped back to
7th at the start. After making some small adjustments to the car during
a caution period Mike set his sights on the cars in front of him. With
the #24 car handling better Mike began to pick off the cars that had
passed him eventually settling for a 3rd place finish. This would give
Mike the 18th starting spot in the 50 lap, $10,000 to win "A" main.
Mike was biding his time when he was caught up in a lap 12 tangle that
ended his night with a 20th place finish.
LANCO - June 24,2006
Once
again there were 37 600's in the pits at LANCO. Mike started the heat
race in 4th and was running in that position midway through the race
when he was run into by another car causing him to spin out. He worked
the SHRED Racing machine back up to 5th at the finish which would give
him an outside front row starting spot for the consi. Mike jumped to
the lead at start of the consi, leading all 10 laps and winning by
nearly half a lap. The feature would see Mike start the 24 car 17th on
the grid. He worked his way to 12th with two laps to go when he was
collected in an accident ending his night with a 21st place finish.
Linda's Speedway - June 23,2006
The racing at Linda's has been cancelled due to weather.
A
full field of 600's were in the pits at Kutztown for some Wednesday
night action. After starting 5th in the heat race Mike was able to pass
2 cars in the opening lap and settle into 3rd, where he would remain
until the finish. Mike started the feature in the 8th position and
although he lost two spots early, he was able to gain one back and
spend the majority of the race running 9th. He was running in the 9th
spot on the last lap when the 2 cars in front of him got together
enabling Mike to get past them and claim 7th as the checkered flag
fell. However, a scoring error credited the SHRED Racing Team with a
17th place finish.
LANCO - June 17,2006
Another
outstanding field of 39 600's graced the pits at LANCO. After starting
the #24 machine 3rd in the heat race, Mike was able to bring the
car home 2nd at the checkers solidly qualifying him for the feature
with a 6th place starting position. Mike spent the majority of the
feature event running in the 5th spot, but a daring move on the
final lap gave him the 4th position as the checkered flag flew. It was
another strong showing for the SHRED Racing Team after
experiencing their fair share of tough luck thus far this season.
Linda's Speedway - June 16,2006
Thirty-one
600's were pitside as Linda's finally got a show in after three
consecutive rain outs. Another not so great pill draw had the SHRED
racing machine starting 6th in the heat race. Mike was able to
pass several cars and grab the 4th and final transfer spot.
The 4th place heat finish gave Mike the 16th starting spot in the
feature. Mike began moving through the field at the drop of the
green and was running 7th when the final caution waved with one lap to
go.The brake pedal broke going into turn one on the final restart, but
Mike was able to save the car and hang on for a 12th place finish.
LANCO - June 10,2006
Another
strong field of 35 600's graced the pit area on Saturday June 10. Mike
started the SHRED Racing #24 on the pole of the heat race and although
the car was not perfect, he was able to lead all 10 laps and earn the
pole for the feature event. Taking advantage of his pole starting spot,
Mike blasted out to a comfortable lead in the opening laps of the
feature. Although numerous cautions erased his lead Mike was able to
pull away from 2nd place on each of the ensuing restarts allowing him
to pick up the SHRED Racing Team's first victory of the
season. A big congratulations goes out to driver Mike Freed and
the entire SHRED Racing Team for hard fought, well deserved win.
Linda's Speedway - June 9,2006
The racing action set for Friday June 9 has been cancelled due to rain.
Hill Valley - June 3,2006
The
SHRED Racing Team took advantage of LANCO's off week and make the trip
to Hill valley to shake the car down for the Super 600 Showdown. A
strong field of 30 600's signed in for the night's racing activities.
Mike started the #24 third in the heat race, and after a strong
run was able to finish in that position. Mike lined up 6th on the grid
for the feature event and was running in that position when the rear
axle broke coming out of turn 2 ending the team's night with a 24th
place finish.
LANCO - May 27,2006
56
600's crammed the pit area for LANCO's big Memorial Day open show. Mike
started the SHRED racing #24 7th in the heat race and was able to move
forward and take the checkered flag in the 4th position, but with only
the top 3 advancing to the feature this meant that Mike would have to
qualify through the "B" main. After starting 4th in the "B" Mike was
able to bring the car home in 3rd, garnering the 21st starting spot for
the feature. Before a lap was even completed in the feature, the SHRED
racing machine got sandwiched between 2 other cars and Mike ended up on
his side. Mike was able to refire the car, but a collapsed wing forced
him to retire from the event and be credited with a 21st place finish.
Linda's Speedway - May 26,2006
The racing action scheduled for Linda's Speedway on Friday May 26 has been cancelled due to weather.

LANCO - May 20,2006
Once
again, 36 600's packed the pit area on Saturday night. Mike started the
SHRED Racing machine 3rd in the heat race, but shifter problems caused
him to pull in early and be credited with an 8th place finish. The
problems in the heat race relegated the SHRED Racing #24 to a 9th place
start for the consi. Mike took the checkered flag in the 6th position,
2 spots shy of a transfer to the feature.
Kutztown - May 17,2006
The
SHRED Racing Team made it's first ever appearance at Kutztown and while
the night of racing was decent, the end result wasn't quite what the
team had hoped for. Mike started 4th in the heat and drove a smooth
race to finish in that position. The feature saw Mike line the #24
machine up in the 8th spot. Mike worked his way into 5th place early in
the race, but several minor incidents throughout the remainder of the
feature saw Mike bring the SHRED Racing machine home in the 13th
position.
LANCO - May 13,2006
The
night started off rough for Mike as another competitor's bad judgement
with the brake pedal left the SHRED racing team with a bent up race car
after warm ups. The team got the car back together in time for the heat
race, but an ill handling machine caused Mike to spin twice enroute to
an 11th place finish. An electrical problem developed as the team was
preparing the #24 machine for the consi, forcing Mike to retire the car
for the night.
Linda's Speedway - May 12,2006
It
was another beautiful night as 32 of the "super" 600's signed in
for the evening's racing activities. Mike started the SHRED Racing #24
in the 8th spot for the heat race. A misfire in the engine
at start of the event dropped Mike back to last place, well behind the
rest of the field. The motor cleared itself up and while Mike was able
to gain ground on the rest of the pack throughout the remainder of the
race, he fell well short of a qualified spot finishing in the 10th
position. As a result, Mike would have to start the consi in the 11th
position with only the top 6 finishers advancing to the feature event.
At the drop of the green, Mike was hard on the throttle as he began to
advance the #24 through the field. As the white flag flew, the SHRED
Racing machine was running in the 7th spot several car lengths out of a
qualified position. Coming out of turn 4 to take the checkered flag,
Mike dove low under the 6th place car and grabbed the the final
qualifying position at the line. The start of the feature saw Mike line
up as the 24th and final starter on the grid. After a false start and 1
early caution flag, the remainder of the race was run "clean and green"
as Mike was able to bring the SHRED Racing machine home in the 15th
position at the finish.
LANCO - May 6,2006
149
cars packed the pit area this week with the 600's pulling in the
highest count of the evening at 37. This week started the points
handicapping, which put Mike in the 4th starting spot for his heat
race. By the completion of lap 1, Mike had driven the SHRED Racing
machine into 2nd place. Mike made several bids for the lead throughout
the remainder of the race, but would have to settle for the runnerup
position when the checkers fell. The start of the main event saw Mike
line the #24 up on the outside of the 4th row in the 8th starting
position. Mike was able to work the car into the 5th position early in
the race. He remained in that position until the final lap when a less
than itelligent decision by another competitor took the SHRED Racing
machine out of the competition and relegated Mike to a 16th place
finish in the final rundown.
LANCO - April 29,2006
The
weather was great for LANCO's opener which had been postponed due to
rain a week earlier. 150 cars packed the pit area, including 35 of the
600cc machines. A lucky pill draw saw the SHRED Racing # 24 start on
the pole of the third heat. The car was strong and led every lap
enroute to a convincing win over several of the division's top names.
The crew made several changes to the SHRED Racing machine prior to the
feature event which had Mike lining up third on the grid. The car
developed some sort of engine problem almost immediately which forced
Mike to retire the #24 shortly before the halfway mark. Mike was
credited with a 20th place finish after the DNF.
Linda's Speedway - April 28,2006
Finally
Mother Nature cooperated and provided nice weather for the night's
racing activities. After a solid test run at LANCO's practice
sandwiched between a couple of rainy weekends, Mike was eager to get
the car back into competition. The night started on a little bit of a
down note as a less than desirable pill draw relegated the SHRED Racing
machine to an 8th place starting spot in the heat race. A strong field
of 36 cars with only 4 to qualify in each heat meant that Mike would
have to lean hard on the throttle to make the show. The car was strong,
allowing Mike to gain the needed positions and bring the SHRED Racing
#24 home in the 4th and final qualifying position. After several
adjustments, Mike lined the car up on the outside of the 7th row for
the start of the feature event. Advancing from his 14th starting spot,
Mike was able to work the SHRED Racing machine through the field
picking off several spots and taking the checkered flag in the 8th
position. Up next for the team is LANCO's opener on Saturday April 29.
LANCO - April 22,2006
Once
again Mother Nature has reared her ugly head, this time causing the
cancellation of LANCO's season opener for Saturday April 22. We hope to
see everyone at Linda's on Friday April 28.
Linda's Speedway - April 21,2006
Rain
has washed out the racing action set for Friday April 21 at Linda's
Speedway. Right now the weather doesn't look to promising, but the
SHRED Racing Team plans to be at LANCO's opener on Saturday night.
LANCO Practice Night - April 15,2006
The SHRED Racing machine was pretty good right off the trailer
even though the track wasn't in perfect shape.(Although I must add that
everyone did a great job trying to get the track as good as
possible.)After a gear change and a couple of other minor adjustments,
Mike took the #24 out for the second session. The car was fast and
looked great rimriding the high groove. It was great seeing everyone
again, and the family atmosphere at LANCO is second to none.Up next for
the SHRED Racing Team is Linda's on Friday April 21 and LANCO's opener
